TIRO Y ARRASTRE (PULLING AND DRAGGING HORSES)

This is a traditional sport of the Community of Valencia that involves horses and sand sacks. It consists in a race of horses burdened with a carriage full of sand sacks, with three horses per carriage maximum.
The competitions will take place on a track 50 or 60 metres long and 3 metres wide. Under any circumstance animal mistreatment will be prohibited. The race consists in running the track in the shortest time as possible, taking into account that during the circuit there will be three obligatory stops clearly indicated. The maximum time is 5 minutes. To promote competitivity the participants and their horses will compete in the corresponding category according to the weight dragged: 0-120 kg; 120-220 kg; 320-420 kg; 420-520 kg; 520-up to the limit).
The horses used in this sport must be over 3 years old, big and strong. They are only used for competitions and trained daily.
There are differente modalities in this sport: tiro apilado and tiro gato. The first one requires to harness the horse (with tauts and a collar) and time the horse's effort to pull and dragg while stopped. The second one, however, requires two horses harnessed to each other, so that they pull each other.
