At home:
1. Keep blinds down and windows open.
2. Take frequent cool showers or baths.
3. Drink at least 3 liters of water per day. Drink before you get thirsty.
4. Check frequently on children and the elderly.
5. Avoid heavy meals, eat fruits and vegetables instead. Eat less quantity more times a day.
6. Avoid hot meals and the abuse of alcohol.
Away from home:
1. Avoid leaving the house during the middle of the day (between 12 in the afternoon and 6 pm).
2. Reduce physical activity, especially the outdoors one held during the middle of the day.
3. If you cannot avoid outdoor activities during the hot hours, remember to relax and to wear sun protection.
4. Avoid alcohol and caffeine because of their dehydrating effect.
5. Wear light - colored, loose, natural fabrics. Protect yourself wearing a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
6. If you have to take a long trip do not forget to rest and refresh. Prevent by bringing liquid to hydrate in sufficient quantity for all the vehicle occupants.
7. Never leave children or pets inside a closed vehicle.
